Sylvester Downing, age 68, passed peacefully from this life the morning of Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Larkin Chase Center in Bowie, MD. Sylvester moved to Maryland to be with his daughter in June of 2017. Sylvester was surrounded and supported by his loving family. Sylvester was born in Seaford, DE on June 14, 1949 to the late Sylvia Nichols and the late Robert Nichols.

Sylvester is survived by 5 siblings (and spouses): Joan Nichols Bland (late Charles), Jeffrey Nichols (Janie), Robbin Downing, Sandra Nichols and Mark Nichols and brother, Robert Nichols and sister, Sharlin Lee Nichols, who proceeded him in passing. Sylvester preceded in passing by his brother, Robert Nichols and sister, Sharlin Lee Nichols. Sylvester is survived by two children (and spouses): Felicia Anderson (Michael) in Bowie, MD and James Downing (Vonnie) in Jacksonville, NC, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  Sylvester was also once married to Kathryn Jules.

Sylvester was educated in Boston public schools and later became a baker, bookkeeper, custodian and cook. Sylvester was known to say “god bless” to everyone. Sylvester was a resident of Bay Cove in Boston, MA. Sylvester loved sharing the gospel with those in the community.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 11am-1pm and viewing from 10am-11am. Location: Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA 02124. An Interment will be held following the service at the Fairview Cemetery, 45 Fairview Ave., Boston, MA 02136. Following the Interment, family and friends will be greeted at the Carver Den, 80 Talbot Ave., Boston, MA 02124.
