Lawrence J. “Larry” Barry Jr., of Milton, died May 5, 2017, peacefully at home.
Beloved husband of the late Jean (Gourley) Barry. Loving father of L. Joseph Barry III and his wife Ellen Tikkanen of Brookline, Susan Reycroft, and her husband Donald of Norfolk, Thomas Barry and his wife Coleen of Weymouth and Brian Barry and his wife Marianne of Medfield. Brother of Mary A. Barry of Milton and the late James F. Barry. Cherished grandfather of Lawrence J. Barry IV, Donald A. Reycroft Jr., Jean Dowling, Bradford J. Reycroft, Elizabeth Collins and Molly Ann Barry.
Larry was a Master Pipefitter for Local # 448 and #12 for over forty years before retiring. In his earlier years he was a Minor League baseball pitcher for the New York Giants. He was a man of many talents, mastering home improvements of all types. He also shared his knowledge teaching oil burner technician courses at New England Fuel Institute in Watertown, MA, and sailing classes in Hingham. Larry was a devoted Catholic and a longtime Eucharistic Minister at Saint Elizabeth Church in Milton. He had a love of Big Band and Swing music and enjoyed being involved in nutrition: a master of the Zone diet which became his way of life. Dedicated to his country, Larry was an Army Veteran, having served in World War II in Germany as Intercept Operator. The most important aspect of Larry’s life was his family: the center of his life. He will be missed by all his family, friends and coworkers: All better people for having known and loved him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Elizabeth Church, Reedsdale Road at Randolph Avenue, Milton, Thursday May 11 at 10:00am. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8PM in Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE. Interment in Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
