Robert P. Kelly, Esq., a longtime resident of Brookline and Provincetown, died at his Brookline residence February 14, 2017 at age 72.

He died from a rapidly progressive vascular disease that defied diagnosis and treatment. Despite pain and amputations he remained the same Bob Kelly that he always was – unassuming, always trying to help other people, and very appreciative of the goodwill of others.

Bob was a partner at Lane, Lane and Kelly in Braintree for over 40 years. He spent his free time at his Provincetown home which was his weekend refuge for over 30 years. Bob gave freely to others throughout his life. He served countless terms on the Board of Trustees of the Atrium Condominium in Brookline. He also served numerous terms on the steering committee of Los Papagayos, a gay men’s social club in Boston and hosted many of their social events at his Provincetown and Brookline homes.

He is survived by his devoted husband of 33 years, Scot Groteguth MD. He maintained a close and loving relationship with his sister and brothers throughout his life. This includes his sister Karen Sullivan of Holliston and Mashpee and brothers Thomas Kelly MD of Edwards, CO and Scottsdale, AZ, and David Kelly of Vero Beach, FL and Osterville. Bob also had a special relationship with his first cousin Margaret Vernon of Beverly. Bob often described her as “more of a sister than a cousin”. Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their children. Despite time and distance he remained close with all of them.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Loyola Chapel at BC High, 150 Morrissey Boulevard, Dorchester, Tuesday February 21 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Monday 5-7 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.
