Jean M. Barry passed away peacefully October 22, after a period of declining health, surrounded by her family who adored her.

After raising 4 kids, with incredible energy and enthusiasm, she began her career in car sales with Boch Oldsmobile in the early 1970’s. Jean was one of Massachusetts’ first car saleswomen and eventually continued in private concierge car sales.

In addition to her love of family, cars and horses, Jean was an avid golfer, both in in competitive tournaments and family play. She enjoyed many great years of golf, playing at Lost Brook Golf Club, Wollaston Golf Club and eventually Wampatuck Golf Club.

The grand-kids: Donald and Bradford Reycroft, Jean Dowling, Elizabeth Collins, Lawrence Barry IV, and Molly Barry, who were introduced to golf at early ages and loved their adventures with “J.J.” The great grand-kids: Leo and Abe Dowling, Anna, Braelynn and Bradford Reycroft Jr. They loved to visit and “experience” J.J. ‘s house.

Jean was a member of Milton’s Women’s Club, through which she also volunteered in the Milton schools’ preventative health screening program. She was an avid reader, with an unquenchable propensity for history and politics. She was also a fabulous story-teller! (Fact or Fiction!)

Jean had a wonderful network of friends and was generous; often cooking and dropping off home-cooked meals to them if they were ill. Dinner parties sometimes featured the well known roast beef and gravy.

During her illness, Jean was blessed and grateful for extraordinary daily care by Christina, Darlene, Cathy, and Jackie. They shared a mutual love for each other.

She will be forever remembered for her love of life, laughter and wit. It’s been said: “The only thing she missed in life was diphtheria.”

Jean was the beloved wife of Lawrence J. Barry , Jr. Devoted mother of L. Joseph Barry, III of Brookline, Susan Reycroft of Norfolk, Thomas M. Barry of Weymouth and Brian Barry of Medfield.  Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Daughter of the late Mary and Joseph McNeill & Biological parents Ruth and Frederick Gourley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth’s Church, Milton, Friday October 28 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours in at Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE, Thursday 4 – 8 pm. Interment Private.
