Sister Mary Laurana Lernihan mfic, of Newton, a beloved member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception for 77 years, died at Saint Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Thursday October 29, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Ellen Mary (Murphy) Lernihan. Sister was preceded in death by her twin sister Hanna Dinneen and siblings Sr. Ruth Lernihan OP, Helen Howick, Fr. William Lernihan, Patrick Lernihan, Michael Lernihan and Brid Galligan. She is survived by her sisters Lucy Brady, Clare O’Connell and her husband Padraig, Ann Wilson, sister-in-law Margaret Lernihan and her brother Thomas Lernihan and his wife Mina and several nieces and nephews and her Missionary Franciscan Sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel at Mount Alvernia Convent, 790 Centre Street, Newton MA 02458 Wednesday November 4 at 10:00 AM. Visitation in the Chapel beginning at 8:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA. A life-long teacher, Sr. Mary Laurana’s ministries included Mount Alvernia Academy in Chestnut Hill and many years in Egypt, Pennsylvania and Georgia, prior to retirement in 2000.
