George Thomas Padula, of  Milton, died on June 23, 2015 at age 85.

Predeceased by his wife, Helene D. Padula and his daughter, Donna Driscoll Tarnoff.  Beloved father of Robert F. Driscoll of Medford, MA, George T. Padula Jr. of Westwood, MA and Elizabeth Padula Tourtelotte of Newton, MA.  Loved grandfather to Megan Driscoll Kealty, Ryan Driscoll, Nicholas and Alexander Tarnoff, Ellen and Emily Padula and Grace and Clare Tourtelotte and great grandfather to Evelyn and Vivian Kealty. Dear father-in-law to Peter Tarnoff, Marla Driscoll, Marjorie Padula and John Tourtelotte.  Beloved uncle and cousin to many.  Predeceased by his parents, Carmino and Carmela Padula and siblings, Phyllis Calarese, Patrick Padula and Lenore Padula.

A 1954 graduate of Boston University Law School, a 1950 graduate of Boston College and a 1946 graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, George had a long career as an attorney in Boston and Quincy, Mass.  As a generous, intelligent and practical solo practitioner, George’s clients came from all walks of life and all parts of Boston. He very much enjoyed helping people with the day to day legal matters of life.

Taking a year of leave from law school, George served in the US Air Force Reserve at Otis Air Force Base during the Korean War and he valued this service opportunity to help our country and for the many lifelong friends he met while in the “canal zone.”

George met his wife Helene, who was a physical therapist and a widow, while he was recuperating from a serious automobile accident. Together they blended their Irish and Italian immigrant heritages into one new family with four children and they shared 47 happy years of married life.   George and Helene were a great pair, travelling the world with their friends to see sites such as the pyramids of Egypt, the Panama Canal and even visiting the villages of both their parents in Italy and Ireland. In later years, George and Helene enjoyed socializing with friends at White Cliffs in Plymouth.

As the son of Italian immigrants, George grew up in South Boston, Roxbury and later Watertown. George loved his Italian heritage and its foods – the cookies, the pasta, the fried peppers…. and in years past enjoyed chatting in Italian at the Haymarket for weekly vegetable shopping.  George was also active in the Italian legal association, the Justinian Law Society, and its annual clambake with a poker game was always a summer highlight.  He enjoyed a good joke, a good debate and a good bet.

Active in his community, George was elected as a Milton Town Meeting Member for over 20 years and served by appointment to the Milton Warrant Committee.  Together with his wife, George was an active Catholic, a longtime supporter of the Friends of Milton Hospital and also of local charities such as the Italian Home for Children and the Cardinal’s Appeal.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, June 27^th at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, MA.   Services will conclude with burial at Milton Cemetery.   Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home in Milton on Friday, June 26^th from 4 to 8pm.
