Catherine Dorcas Peacock, née Copeland, of Wesley Chapel,  Florida, died at the age of 101 on June 24th. She was predeceased by her husband, Corporal George Raymond Peacock, USMC in 1945 and her son, Jeffrey Copeland Peacock, in 2005.

Dorcas, as she was known  was born on January 2, 1914 in New Britain, Conn. to Mary E. and Homer H. Copeland. Dorcas was raised by her mother “Copie” and her mother’s extended family, the McCormicks, in Dorchester, Mass. after the death of her father in 1919.

She married “Ray” Peacock of Dorchester in 1935 and raised her three sons with the help of Copie after the death of her husband at Iwo Jima.

Dorcas moved to East Milton, Mass in the late 1940s. She worked for the Veterans Administration as a clerk in Boston until she joined the Milton Police Dept. in the 1950s as secretary to the Chief. She later moved to Scituate, Mass and, after the death of her mother in the late 1960s, thence to St Petersburg, Fla, where she “enjoyed the sun and lack of snow & ice”, make new friends and managed her rentals for many years.

Dorcas had a great love of family and animals, always had a favorite dog nearby even when driving to visit friends & family. She was a fearless driver and traveller, going by car & train around the country to be with them. Some of her other favorite activities were: bargain shopping,  senior dances, searching Tampa Bay for seashells and volunteering in her local St Petersburg parish, St Mary’s.

For the better part of the last decade she lived with  her son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Donna, who along with  her granddaughter, Catherine, cared for her lovingly  through her final days.

Dorcas is survived by two sons, G Raymond Peacock, Ivyland, Pa. and Mark D Peacock, Wesley Chapel, Fla., four daughters-in-law, Beth, Carrie, Donna & Jean, 16 grandchildren,  23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandaughter and many step-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha’s Church ,  Adams St  at Brook Rd., Milton, on Wednesday, July 1,  2015 at 9:00 AM,  Relatives and friends invited. Visitation Tuesday, June 30,  4-8 PM at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON .   Interment  Milton Cemetery, Milton  where she will be buried beside her husband who has waited for her for 70 years!. A later memorial Mass in her name will be held in St Joseph’s in Zephyrhills, Florida, her most recent parish.

Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to be made in her memory and in the memory of her son Jeffrey C Peacock, to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown MA 02472
