There is an open gate at the end of the road. Through which each must go alone. And there is a light we cannot see out Father claims his own. Beyond the gate, your loved one finds happiness and rest, and there is comfort in the thought that our loving God knows best.

On Thursday, January 29th, 2015, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Rey McKenzie Luis was called to his heavenly home. He was born December 14th 1935 In Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. He was the son of the late Iris Williams.

Rey, affectionately known as Roy, Dad, Grandpa or Papi was raised by his mother in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica with his late sister Ethel Rice. He was very well known for his boxing abilities and his charm. In 1967 He migrated to the United States and settled to Boston with his mother.  Shortly after, he sent for his beloved first born, Rudell Luis. A few years later he met his beautiful wife Flory Myers.  She didn’t take a liking to him at first but he was determined to win her heart and so he did.  They were married September 30th, 1970. Shortly after they had a daughter Lelrine.

Rey was a hardworking man, and maintained two hospital jobs to support his family.  In 1967 he started working at Children’s Hospital as a housekeeper.  A few years after, he worked as an orderly.  Rey had a great love for children.  He would visit all the kids after their surgery, and had a special bird whistle to cheer them up. Whenever he came down the hallway the children recognized the special bird call. He became so close with the doctors at Children’s Hospital that they sent him to Boston College to be trained as an OR Tech. Rey worked at Children’s Hospital for over 30 years.  He took great pride in his career.

He was a loving caring person, who enjoyed quality time with his friends and family. His love for fun and laughter was very evident wherever he went, whether it was playing chess, dominos, music, dancing or making some kind of concoction in the kitchen. He had an amazing way of making anyone and everyone feel welcomed in his presence.
