Francis A. Crowley, 89, of Milton passed away on December 4, 2014.  Beloved husband of the late Dorothy T. Crowley.  Loving father of Annette Hopkins of Norwell, Francis A. Crowley of CA, Daniel Crowley of Milton, Christopher Crowley of Scituate and Joseph Crowley of Brookline.  Francis is also survived by nine grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his siblings Ann Stadum, Mary Dolson, Lydia Kent and Joseph Crowley. Francis was a veteran of WWII and was awarded two Bronze medals one for bravery and one for rescuing wounded soldiers from the battlefield while under machine gun fire.   He was a Boston College graduate with a Masters in Geo-physics from MIT.  He led a 6 month research expedition to Arctic – Ellesmere Shelf –  to determine the suitability of the Arctic as landing strips.  A lifelong scientist, Francis applied his knowledge of gyros to the guidance systems of both the minuteman missile and the NASA space
shuttle programs.  He also worked many years as a seismologist at the Weston Observatory in Weston, MA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 Saint Mary’s Road, Milton.  Relatives and friends kindly invited.  Visiting hours will be held inthe Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON, from 4-8 PM on Monday.  Interment Milton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Germantown Neighborhood Center, 366 Palmer Street, Quincy, MA 02169.
