Phil was an artist with a unique vision and a very warm and friendly person. We lived for some time in the same apartment building and were schoolmates at the Latin School of Chicago. He showed early on signs of his future vocation, as we tried to build together a model of the Globe Theater. I think we only got as far as cutting out the octagonal base. We had renewed our friendship over the last few years, and I was happy to have one last chance to see him on a visit to Chicago. My sincere condolences to the family.
