James H. O’Brien
James H. O’Brien of Braintree passed away peacefully October 12, 2014, at age 87. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Margaret (Coyne) O’Brien. Loving father of James O’Brien, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Milton, the late Paul O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien and his wife Patricia of Hanover, Maureen O’Brien and her husband George Garcia of Canton, and Patricia O’Brien of Wareham. Devoted grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of one. Predeceased by his brother Robert O’Brien of Braintree and survived by his loving sister Josephine Tassinary of Sandwich and Naples, FL. as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Roxbury to Hugh and Delia O’Brien. James spent most of his life in Dorchester. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy aboard the USS Artemis and served as paratrooper in the US Army. Naval service February 1944 – February 1946; Army service March 1947-March 1950. Retired Boston Police Detective (District 10) and Supervisor of Attendance for Boston Public Schools. Longtime member of K of C Council 180. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Gregory’s Church, 2223 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester on Thursday at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held in Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation in James’ name may be sent to The Carmelite Monastery of Boston, 61 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Boston, MA 02119.

Mr. O was such a great guy with a big welcome every time I saw him. Now he and Mrs O are finally together! My thought go out to your family.
He knew everyone and if there was news/gossip he was sure to have knowledge of it. Loved him and will so miss him. Thanks for making so many of us feel like family.
