Bob Foster (Robert Elliott Foster, Sr.) of Milton, MA died at age 87 on June 14th, 2014. He was born in Quincy on March 23, 1927; the son of Frank and Elsie (McClenning) Foster. Bob grew up in Milton  with two brothers, Kendall and Frank. He married Eleanor (Botti) Foster in 1955 and they had three children; Robert, Peter and Janice.

Bob attended Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA and later joined the US Army. He served in Germany in 1945 with General Patton’s third Army as Sargent Field Artillery Gunner. He joined the American Legion Post 114 and served as Commander from 1967-1969. He was a Mason of the Scottish Rite and a Milton Auxiliary Police Officer for 56 years. He was a member of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and he loved to march in parades and hold large neighborhood 4th of July parties.

Bob was proud of Milton and it’s history and actively sought to contribute where he could. He was a Town Meeting Member for more than 55 years and served on many boards, including The Town Conservation Commission, The East Milton Environs Committee, and Concerned Citizens of Milton.  He was New England Vice Governor for the Kiwanis Club.  Bob was also an active Scoutmaster for Troop 8 of the Boy Scouts of America and often took them hiking, camping and rafting.

Bob was active in the East Milton Congregational Church, where he served as a Deacon and moderator on many committees. He was involved in the Couples Club and the choir. For many years he organized a Men’s Prayer Breakfast and had President Jimmy Carter and Patriot’s John Hanna, and various dignitaries as speakers.

Bob began his career at MacKenzie & Foster Electric Company and later sold Real Estate and owned the Boston Woodworking Company. He was an electrician and member of Local 103 IBEW for 51 years, where he made many friends.

Bob was multifaceted. He enjoyed gardening, bee keeping, woodworking, watercolor painting, and collecting books. More importantly, Bob loved his family and they loved him.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, his son Robert and wife Susan of Milton, his son Peter and partner Dan Britton of Brookline, his daughter Janice and husband Dana Mitiguy of Cumberland, Maine and his grandchildren: Carolyn and Gregory Foster, and Cameron, Julia, Douglas and Jocelyn Mitiguy whom he loved and cherished greatly. Bob was pre-deceased by dearly loved ‘Aunt Katie’ Keane. He is also survived my many nieces and nephews.
