Philip F. Mulvey, III
Philip Francis Mulvey III was born February 17, 1958 in Buffalo New York. He grew up in Needham, Massachusetts and graduated from Needham High School in 1976. He attended The College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1980 and Suffolk University Law School, graduating cum laude in 1983.
While in college, Phil rowed on the crew team, participating in the Head of the Charles for three years. At Holy Cross, Phil met the love of his life, Terry and they were married at Holy Cross in the Chapel of St James in 1982. Together they have three daughters, Erin, Sarah and Hannah.
Phil practiced law as an In House attorney for Sun Life of Canada for sixteen years, leaving as an Associate Vice President. He then practiced general law while working from home and raising the girls.
Phil enjoyed coaching young athletes. He ran the Milton Town Soccer program and the Milton Girls Lacrosse program for many years. He believed in the value of athletics not for games or events won and lost, but for the lessons of hard work, success, failure and camaraderie. He was so proud to coach the Thayer Academy Ski Team from a last place group to All New England Champions for the girls division in two years. He would often smile and say that his former players were now All Americans, NCAA title winners, successful business people and entrepreneurs because of his early coaching and lessons learned.
Phil loved to ski, teaching friends and his girls to ski and spending family time on the slopes. Every weekend while the girls were young were spent in New Hampshire skiing until high school and college activities took over. Phil’s passion was watching his girls succeed on and off the field. He made every lacrosse game at William and Mary that Sarah played, field hockey games at Trinity College for Erin and while undergoing chemotherapy never missed a game at Boston College of Hannah’s. He was often a fixture on the fields for his nieces and nephews games.
Phil was the beloved husband of Therese (Leary) Mulvey, M.D. Devoted father of Erin A. Mulvey of Boston, Sarah E. Mulvey of VA and Hannah Mulvey of Milton. Son of Philip F. Mulvey, Jr. and Mary Louise (Hehir) Mulvey of Needham and Falmouth. Brother of Brian J. Mulvey of Norwell, Kevin H. Mulvey of Falmouth and Sean C. Mulvey of Franklin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind and his beloved rescues; Daisy and Sebastian.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha’s Church, MILTON on Weds., May 14 at 10:30 am. Visiting Hours in the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., MILTON VILLAGE, Tues. 4- 8 pm. Interment Milton Cemetery. If desired contributions in Phil’s memory may be sent to Milton Youth Girls Lacrosse Program, 193 Whittier Rd., Milton, MA 02186.

I hope the wonderful spirit he had about him will stay with you always and carry you through this difficult time. May God be with Phil.

Dr Mulvey you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry for your loss.
I extend my most sincere condolences to Terry and the entire Mulvey family. Although our paths hadn’t crossed recently, I have very fond and happy memories of living on the next street over from the Mulveys in Needham, working at the Pool & Racquet with Phil, and then also attending Holy Cross and Suffolk Law with him. Phil was a caring, generous and happy guy, and I was lucky to call him my friend. He will be missed, obviously by his immediate and extended family, but I can see how much he is also loved by the Town of Milton. God bless Phil and keep him. May he rest in peace.
