Gloria Jean Smith
Gloria Jean Smith, 70, of Claymont Delaware, formerly of Boston, died July 16,2013
“Glo” as she was affectionately known was born on October 18, 1942 in Richmond, Virginia to Hazel Wright McNeil and Jessie Hardie. As a child she moved to Wilmington, Delaware where she received her education from James H. Groves Adult High School. Gloria married Calvin Lee Smith Sr. in 1959. The couple later moved to Boston, Massachusetts where Gloria continued her education while raising her family. Gloria graduated with her Associates in Applied Science from Chamberlayne Junior College in 1979. She furthered her education and Graduated from Boston University in 1986 with her Bachelors of Science degree in Social Work.
Gloria worked for the state of Massachusetts as a Social worker for 30 years before she retired. She received a number of awards and recognition from the mayor and governor for her dedicated service and contributions to the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Gloria was a member of Parthenia Temple no. 905 in Boston, Massachusetts. She also served as an usher at her church Timothy Baptist.
Gloria was a very spiritual person and avid writer and reader. She loved life and lived it to the greatest. She was a generous person always giving, volunteering and spreading love wherever she went.
Gloria was the beloved mother of Theresa Ann Smith of DE, Calvin Lee Smith, Jr. of Boston, Pamela Marie Smith of Dorchester, Anthony William Smith of E. Walpole, Devoted sister of Dennis Hardie, David McNeil, Dale McNeil, Barbara Ann Wells, Linda Marie Mays all of DE and Jane Wilson of NC. Cherished grandmother of Alturo Smith, Tureka Smith Dennis, Anisha Smith, Joshua Land, Sade Jones, Calvin Smith III, Joseph Bushfan, Malik Harvey, Tikierra Kelliehan, Unique Smith, Umani Smith, Essence Smith, Ebony Smith. Great Grandmother of Jordan Smith and Denzel Carter. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 22, in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS at 11 o’clock. Visitation Monday from 9 to 11 am. Interment Private. If desired contributions in Gloria’s name may be sent to American Heart Association 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6 ,Waltham, MA 02451-8750.

Pamela, I am so terribly sorry to hear of the loss of your Mum. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers…we’ve had some laughs over “Glor’a-Jean” hopefully they come to mind and give you solace in times of sorrow. Lesley

Please accept heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother. While i only was near her a little while, it is clear where you got your personality filled with warmth and love. She was always kind with me. During these which may seem your darkest hours know that the Lord and friends will are here with you.
