Edna Mae Alexander
Mrs. Edna Mae Burton Alexander was born on May 31, 1949 in Macon, North Carolina to the late Leolia and Nathaniel Burton, Sr. She was the granddaughter of the late Jennie and James Taylor and Janie and Moses Burton.
Edna attended the Warren County School System. She left her childhood home and moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she worked for more than 30 years as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) and bus monitor for Boston Public Schools. Her life’s work was dedicated to ensuring the comfort and dignity of the elderly and children. She was an avid urban gardener. When not working, her favorite pasttime was playing Bingo with her friends.
Edna was an amazing, strong woman whom not only took care of her own children, but also opened her heart and home to many others, as well. She was also a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for large gatherings.
She is survived by her children: Jermaine Alexander (Teressa) of Houston, TX; Milton Alexander of Atlanta, GA; Renee Alexander of Boston, MA; Janeeque Evans (Thurman) of Fall River, MA.
Edna is survived by her siblings: Ella L. Whitlock (Clyde) of Richmond, VA; Annie E. Perry (Jerry) of Norlina, NC; Jennie A. Lassiter (Charles)of Soul City , NC. She was preceded in death by her brothers Nathaniel Burton, Jr., and Bennie R. Burton.
She is also survived by her Grandchildren: Krystle Bowman, Alicia Jackson, Malachi Alexander, Emmanuel Alexander, Elijah Alexander, Nia Alexander, Marcus Alexander, Aneshia Alexander, and Amarion Alexander and Great- grandchildren: Kaleb and Kaiden Eglin.
Memorial service at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Friday May 3 at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Funeral service and interment will take place in North Carolina.
