Fred P. Speranzo

Fred P. Speranzo, a retired detective with the Boston Police Department, died at the William B. Rice Eventide Home, Quincy, Tuesday January 10, 2012. Born and raised in Quincy, he graduated from the Quincy Public Schools and entered the United States Army during World War II. Fred joined the Boston Police Department in 1955, serving District 9 Roxbury, District 3 Mattapan, District 6, South Boston, Area A Downtown and District 11 Fields Corner. He retired as a detective in 1981. Mr. Speranzo was active with the Knights of Columbus. He was a Past Grand Knight with the Dorchester Lower Mills Council 180, former District Deputy and Assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Massachusetts State Council. When he resided in Hemet, CA, he was involved with K of C Valley Council 5528. He was also active with the Italian Catholic Federation and his building association in California. Mr. and Mrs. Speranzo returned to Rockland in 1997. Beloved husband of Madeleine A. (Harrington) Speranzo. Father of Charles A. Speranzo of Arizona, Carol-Ann Speranzo of Quincy and Neal F. Speranzo of Arizona. Fred is survived by seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and his siblings Americo Speranzo of Randolph, Julia D’Andrea of Quincy, Virginia Sherrick of East Bridgewater and the late Dominic Speranzo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Gregory Church, Dorchester, Friday January 13 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, MILTON, Thursday 5:30-8:00 PM. Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Friday at 1:15 PM.
