Lily C. (Bistany) Foley

Lily C. (Bistany) Foley, of Milton, died on November 23, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Boston and raised in the City’s South End and Brighton neighborhoods, she was a graduate of Brighton High School and Boston State College.  Upon graduating college with a Degree in Education, Lily taught English at the Gavin Middle School in South Boston.  Lily left teaching to lovingly raise her two sons and later re-entered the workforce as a Social Worker with  The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance, where she worked for over twenty years.  Lily retired in 2002 and in 2006 she was elated to become a “Gaga” to her grandson Michael. Lily spent much of her time at the Milton home of her son Robert and his wife Rita, where she quickly became Michael’s best friend and was well-known as “Mikey’s Gaga” to the neighborhood children.  Lily was a loving, compassionate and caring Mother to the late James M. Foley and devoted Daughter to the late Zicky and Mary Bistany (Tahan).  Loving Sister to Ann and William Tutterman of Milton and the late Chester Bistany.  Sister-in-law to Ann Foley of Dedham, William and Julia Lane of Dedham and Judy and John Foley of Scituate.  Beloved Aunt to Sharon Lane of Dedham, Nadia and William Lane Jr. of Dedham, Donna and Andy Camiolo of Canton, Shawn Lane of Medford,  Michael and Margit Foley of Hingham as well as seven grandnieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her husband Martin V. Foley of Falmouth.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Agatha’s Church, Milton on Wednesday, December 1st at 10:30AM. Visiting hours will be at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. Milton, Tuesday 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Lily’s memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA.
