John F. “Ted” Coughlin

a retired salesman, died Monday December 21 at Colony House Nursing and Rehabilitation, Abington, after a long illness. He was 95 years old.

Born and raised in Dorchester, he was a member of the National Guard of Massachusetts during World War II. Mr. Coughlin was an advertising salesman in the newspaper industry for over forty years. He retired from the Record American after having worked for the Herald Traveler for over 25 years.

Mr. Coughlin was a 66-year Milton resident. He was a former member of the United States Coast Guard Power Squadron. Boating and carpentry were his hobbies. He enjoyed making miniature structures – dollhouses, fire stations and garages from pieces of scrap wood. His late dog, an Irish setter named Red Claire, was his constant companion.

Beloved husband of Claire M. (Darwak) Coughlin. Loving father of Patricia and her husband Joseph Celona of Whitman, Dr. John F. Coughlin and his wife Meg of Falmouth, ME, Elaine and her husband Bob Schaeffer of Sanibel Island, FL, Kathleen and her husband John McCown II and Debra Coughlin, all of Pound Ridge, NY. Grandfather of Kristine Celona Mucci and her husband Rick, Michael Celona and his wife Mindy, Dario Schaeffer, John Daly McCown III, Caroline Hart McCown, Christopher Coughlin and Elizabeth Coughlin. Great-grandfather of Isabella Celona, Justin Mucci and Lucia Celona. Brother of Donald Coughlin of CT and the late William Coughlin, Marie Provencher, Paul Coughlin and Jeremiah Coughlin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton, Saturday January 16 at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, MILTON, Friday January 15, 4-7 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.
