James J. Cotter
James J. Cotter of Milton died August 15, in Norwell, MA.
Mr. Cotter was born in Dorchester and graduated from Boston English High School.He served in the Army during WWII and was a D-Day Veteran. He served as a Sergeant in the National Guard, after his discharge from the Army.
He worked as a civilian for the Navy at the Charlestown Navy Yard for 35 years. Upon retirement, he volunteered at the Milton Hospital with his wife Mary. He was active with the Milton Seniors Citizens, and was member of the Old Colony Yacht Club in Dorchester. He was also and avid bowler and swimmer. He had been a resident of Milton since 1950 and had summered in Centerville on Cape Cod from 1983 until 2000.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Durand) Cotter. Brother of the late John Cotter and Catherine R. Robertson. Uncle to the Powers, Durand, Skinner, O’Meara and Long Families. He was especially close to Joyce Powers and her family and Chris O’Meara.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton, Tuesday, August 19, at Noon. Visiting hours in the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE, Monday 4-7 PM. Interment Mass National V.A. Cemetery, Bourne.
