John Eastman Barbour Jr.

Barbour, John websiteJohn Eastman Barbour Jr., age 56, passed away suddenly on Friday May 3, 2013. John was born in Boston, MA on August 18, 1956.

John graduated Brookline High School in 1975 and later received a Bachelor’s Degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1978 with a concentration in Architecture. After attending Wentworth, he continued his education at Boston Architectural College as well as pursuing a master degree at MIT. John’s first job as an architect was with Stull and Lee where he worked for approximately 8 years. Upon leaving, John became actively involved in his community partnering in a local Soul Food business, Dudley Soul Food, as well as Project R.I.G.H.T, and Quincy-Geneva Housing Corporation, John was the Project RIGHT, Inc.’s Board President and led the Intervale St./Normandy St. Residents Association. John was instrumental in the Lilla Frederick Pilot Middle School Building Design process, monitored the school’s construction hiring compliance with the Boston Residents Jobs Policy, and ensured that the quality of the construction of the school building met appropriate standards, participated in the submission of the Frederick’s pilot school application and was on its Board of Directors. Through his work and dedication John was well respected among his peers. John also served as a mentor for several young people with the passion and commitment to helping others throughout his life.

When John was not servicing his community he enjoyed talking on his CB ham radio, playing tennis and basketball with friends. John was an active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church since 2011.

John was the second of six children. His parents, Marilyn and John Eastman Barbour Sr., survive him, his sister Laura Dunkley and her two children Marilyn and Michael Jr., his sister Ellen Evans her husband Charles Evans their son Zachary Evans, his sister Shirley Barbour and her companion Rachael Berry and her children Christopher and Taylor Rogers, his brothers Steven Barbour his wife Cynthia, and their three children Steven Jr., Justin, and Ashley, his brother Charles Barbour, longtime companion/common law wife Regina Randolph, their children Aaron Barbour his wife Auburnee, their three children Marquis, Aaron and Alijah; his youngest son Andre Barbour; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as cousins, and friends.

Funeral Service in St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 230 Warren Ave., Roxbury, Saturday, May 11,  at 11 o’ clock.  Visitation at the church prior to the service from 10 – 11 am. Interment Mt Hope Cemetery, Boston.
