John F. Murphy
John F. Murphy of Milton, died after a short illness on May 4, 2011 at Milton Hospital. Beloved husband of 42 years of Janet (Meehan) Murphy. He was the brother of Richard G. Murphy of Marshfield and the late Edmund J. “Ned” Murphy. John is survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Born in Boston, John was a graduate of Boston College High School, Class of 1955. He attended the Society of Jesus Seminary for twelve years and taught at Xavier High School in Concord
John joined IBM as a member of the sales department in 1967 and retired after several years with the company.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, and enjoyed gardening at his home in Milton and spending time with his nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church , Milton on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited.
Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home 460 Granite Ave MILTON on Tuesday 5-8PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

John was my math teacher and cross country coach at Xavier. I have always remembered him with respect and fondness. I can still recall the butterflies in my stomach before a race would settle down as he gathered the team and spoke saying, “Now on this …” Only 10 or 11 years older, he was among a group of young Scholastics whose influence on myself and my peers was likely greater than they ever knew.
My deepest sympathy. I will remember him in my masses.
