Patrick J. “Jody” King

Patrick J. “Jody” King of West Roxbury,  formerly of Dorchester and South Boston,December 12, 2012.  Beloved husband of Margaret (Fitzgibbons) King.  Loving father of Peggy Tomasini and her husband Ray of W. Roxbury, Matthew F. King and his wife Robin of W. Roxbury, Patrick J. King , Jr. of Quincy,  and Joseph F. King and his wife Jamie of Canton.  Devoted “Papa” of Ann Marie Tomasini, Joseph Tomasini, Matthew D.  King, Joseph P.  King, Joseph L.  King and Patrick J.  King. Uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.   Brother of the late; Mary King, Jean Carey, Matthew F. King, Cecilia Howard and Helen Gallery. Jody graduated from Boston English High School in 1940. He was captain of the city championship football team. He earned all-scholastic honors and a scholarship to play football at Boston College. His career at BC was interrupted by WWII. He saw combat as a B-17 gunner with the US Army Air Corps. His plane was shot down over Holland and he survived 14 months as a P.O.W. in Germany. After the war, he returned to BC and received his degree, Class of 1947. Jody returned to English High School where he had a long and distinguished career as a teacher and coach. He served many years as a coach for the football team. He also served as head basketball coach. He led English High to the Tech Tournament Basketball Championship and Massachusetts Class A State Championship Title in 1968. English became the first city school to earn a state championship title. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Gregory Church, 2223 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, Monday, December 17 at 10:00 AM.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visitation Sunday 3-7 PM in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St. DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS.  Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.  If desired memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472.
