Richard H. Walwood
Richard Walwood, age 76, of Milton passed away suddenly at his home of 50 years. A retired architect, “Dick” was well known throughout greater Boston as a gentleman and an accomplished and talented architect. His kind disposition and modest demeanor could not conceal his strength of character and intellect. He owned and operated R.H. He designed numerous landmark homes and commercial projects and held a deep passion for his craft until his death. Raised in Belmont, Mr. Walwood was graduated from Boston College High School and The University of Notre Dame. He was a rabid fan of Fighting Irish football, and passed with his beloved Domers undefeated this season and headed to the National Championship game.
Mr. Walwood will be fondly remembered as a faithful and loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Janice M.(Kickham), and five loving children, Susan of Milton, Richard of CA, Peter of Medford, Janice of Beverly, and Julie of Quincy. He will be sorely missed by his three grandchildren Richard, Abraham and Luke along with 34 nieces and nephews. Mr. Walwood was preceded in death by his older brother James, his best friend.
A Milton resident for 50 years, Mr. Walwood was a member of the Milton Hoosic Club, The Clover Club of Boston, a past member of Hatherly Country Club, and a member and past president of The Notre Dame Club Of Boston. I was so sad when I received the news that “Richie” had passed away (Janice he will always be Richie to me). He was the cousin I idolized during my teen years. I guess I felt a special bond with Richie and Jimmy because I was named for their mother and they meant so much to my Mom.
Elizabeth always kept me updated about you two and the children. It is too bad that we did not live closer so we could be in touch more but that is life.
I will be thinking about you Janice and your family. You are very lucky to have most of them close.
All my love,
Marjorie
Janice, I’m so sorry to hear of Dick’s death. He was such a close friend of my brother. He was such a wonderful friend and so kind to Tom.I will know he will be missed . Love, Marian
To Janice and family,
Dick and I both graduated from BCH and UND. He was always lots of fun, alive, conversant, and dedicated. The UND 5-yr architecture program was quite tough, and only the good survived. I bumped into him several times over the years and he was the same Dick – alive and interested in real life.
We miss him, and I will pray for you and your extended family.

Peggy and I are out in PaloAlto waiting for our first grandchild. Tom Smigliani sent me an email about Dick’s passing. So many fond memories of our years on Artwill will always be with us.
Funny thing, I was just thinking of Dick yesterday when there was a discussion on TV about ND teams of the past. The 2012 football team must have helped him through his difficult times.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Walwoods as you all go through this difficult time
