Joseph G. Murphy, Esq.

 

Joseph G. Murphy, Esq., a retired attorney, died surrounded by his loving family at his home in Milton, Tuesday September 27, 2011. Joe was 86 years old. Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, he was a graduate of Boston Latin, University of Virginia and Boston University Law School. Mr. Murphy participated in the V-12 program at the University of Virginia and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired in1988 as Deputy General Counsel for the MBTA, where he worked for 23 years. A voracious reader and faithful Boston sports fan, Joe was an avid photographer and loved to play golf. Beloved husband of the late Mary Teresa (Keaney). Cherished father of Mark F. Esq. and his wife Patricia (Jones) of Wellesley, Marybeth Pepin and her husband Stephen of Milton, Brian P. Esq. and his wife Katherine (Champion) of Cambridge and the late Joseph G. Murphy Jr. of Milton. Beloved father-in-law of Mary (Walsh) Murphy of Milton. Loving grandfather of Maura T. of Boston, Christopher S. Pepin of VT, Erin E. Pepin of DC, Molly K. and Joseph C. of Cambridge. Devoted brother of Alice Thavis of MN. Predeceased by his brothers John F. and Robert A. Murphy. Cherished brother-in-law of Patricia A. Keaney of Milton, Francis M. “Frank” Keaney of FL, Margaret Keaney of Yarmouthport, Edna Murphy of TX, Richard Thavis of MN and Joan Murphy of NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Milton, Saturday October 1 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, MILTON, Friday 4-8 PM. Interment Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Basilico Heart Fund, New England Baptist Hospital, 125 Parker Hill Avenue, Boston, MA 02120 in acknowledgement of the extraordinary care Joe received from Frederick C. Basilico, M.D.
