Jumithe Petiote Bazile
Jumith Petiote Bazile was known by many as “Madam Be” and was affectionately nicknamed “Man Be” by her friends. She was the daughter of Priscilla Bazile and Merat Petiote. Jumith was the last remaining child of their eight children.
Jumith was born on November 26, 1915 in the town of Bainet, which is near Jacmel in the South-East “department”, or region, in Haiti. In 1944, she married her beloved late husband Jean Alberoi Bazile and they were married for 60 years. By that union, she was blessed with eight loving children: Pauline, (late) Pierre, Marie Lourdes, Phanel, Erbe, Mirtho, Sylvie and Solange; as well as 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Jumith’s commitment to her family was unconditional which was evident in the way she cared for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her journey started in 1974 when she arrived in the U.S. and lived in the following states: New York, Massachusetts and Florida. Then in 2000, she returned to Massachusetts where she made it her (final) permanent residence.
She loved singing, dancing, cooking delicious meals for family and friends, and telling stories. Jumith touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and she had a delightful sense of humor.
Her life came to an end at the age of 95 on August 8, 2011, where she passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving children. She was much loved by her family who will miss her until the day they all meet again with Christ in Eternity.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Angela Church, Mattapan on Saturday, August 20 at 10:00AM. Interment Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Friday 6-9PM.

It’s always hard to lose family. This loss affects us all. I say us because although I’m not part of her immediate family, she always treated me like one of her own. I was affectionately nick named “bad boy” as a child when she used to watch me. I was pretty young back then, but the memories are so vivid in my mind. Playing with all the other cousins and watching Sesame Street was a daily event. The one thing I can’t remember though is seeing her sit down. She was always moving! She never took a break! If she wasn’t cooking, she was cleaning. If the kids were alright and something else needed to be done, she took care of it! Madam Be was a strong, compassionate, soft spoken woman. Her love stretched far and wide. I’m disheartened that she didn’t have a chance to meet my son, but I know that she’ll be watching over him and the rest of us until we meet again! Enjoy your rest Madam Be, you’ve done more than enough for “us”. It’s our turn to pay it forward!
My families prayers go out to you all. Take care and God Bless!
