Herbert H. Pekkinen

Herbert H. Pekkinen, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died at John Adams Nursing Home in Quincy on Friday, May 27, 2011. Born in Quincy and a graduate of Quincy High School, he entered the Merchant Marine and served for several years. Upon discharge from the Merchant Marine, he entered the carpentry field and worked on several construction sites around the South Shore. He also built his own home. He enjoyed fishing and canoeing on Herring Pond in Plymouth with his family. Husband of the late Elizabeth (McDonald), he was the loving father of Kathryn S. Shea of Milton, Stephen P. Pekkinen of Quincy, Karen M. Gilmore of Norfolk and David T. Pekkinen of Quincy. He was the brother of the late William Pekkinen. Herbert is survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Joseph James Gilmore and Kailey Mae Gilmore. Visiting hours and services are omitted.
